Russian Drone Found Off Poland's Baltic Coast Carried Live Warhead

A suspected Russian military drone, preliminarily identified as a Gerbera-2 type, was recovered near Rusinowo in Poland's West Pomeranian region on September 14, Polish prosecutors said. Investigators confirmed the drone was carrying a high-explosive fragmentation warhead weighing about 4 kilograms, complete with a detonator, making it a live and potentially dangerous device rather than an inert or decoy model.

Polish bomb disposal specialists safely detonated the warhead on the evening of September 15, prosecutors said. No injuries were reported in connection with the discovery or the controlled detonation.

Investigators have not yet established where the drone was launched from or what its intended purpose was. Officials say the likeliest explanation is that it drifted from international waters into Polish territorial waters, though the inquiry into its origin and flight path continues. The incident adds to a series of recent airspace and territorial incursions along NATO's eastern flank that have heightened tensions between the alliance and Moscow.
