سربراہی اجلاس کے مشرق وسطیٰ سے متعلق اجلاس میں ایرانی صدر مسعود پزشکیان نے شرکت کی، اور اعلامیے نے شہری بنیادی ڈھانچے اور بین الاقوامی ایٹمی توانائی ایجنسی کی حفاظتی نگرانی کے تحت چلنے والی پرامن جوہری تنصیبات پر “جان بوجھ کر حملوں” پر تشویش کا اظہار کیا، یہ کہتے ہوئے کہ مسلح تنازعات کے دوران جوہری تحفظ کو یقینی بنایا جانا چاہیے۔ اس سال میزبان بھارت کے لیے اتفاق رائے تک پہنچنا خاص طور پر مشکل سمجھا گیا، کیونکہ بلاک میں اب ایران اور امریکہ کا قریبی اتحادی متحدہ عرب امارات دونوں شامل ہیں، اور یہ اعلامیہ ایسے وقت میں سامنے آیا ہے جب اگست کے بیشتر حصے میں وقفے کے بعد امریکہ اور ایران نے دوبارہ جوابی حملے شروع کر دیے ہیں۔ بھارتی وزیر اعظم نریندر مودی نے سربراہی اجلاس کو گلوبل ساؤتھ کو مزید بااختیار بنانے کا مطالبہ کرنے کے لیے استعمال کیا، جبکہ چینی صدر شی جن پنگ کی شرکت کو بھارت-چین تعلقات میں برف پگھلنے کی علامت کے طور پر دیکھا گیا۔
